KDP Question on a '93

I was reading some old issues of the TDR (I have all of 'em back to issue 13 I think) and saw an article about harmonic dampener and that they shouldn't be overlooked when adding power to your engine.

Does anyone have any input about this? it does seem to make sense that you would want a larger dampener for the extra stress on the crank.

Any thoughts?

I think (get the fire extinguishers ready  ) that is just to make sure it is still good. The rubber can dry rot, or the two parts can slip, making it idle and/or run rough. And dont worry, you have the "upgraded" one- with the two notches in it for the tach. I've never had any problem with them. You plan on adding some power? ;)

I think the main reason for it was to reduce stress on the crank... you will see that the 215 engines have a larger dampener... and the marines are even bigger.

More power? ME???? Never... :D

So you answered your own question- get a marine one. I dont have the luxury of every back issue of the TDR like some do;). I think you are just in a race to get to 2000 posts. WHat will that take, a month? :D

The bigger dampener is for more rpm. The 215 hp part is3924435 and will fit. If you have a tach pickup, loosen the nuts and slide it upward so it clears by about . 040-. 050".

I see. Thanks for the info.

Do you think getting a 215 dampener would be good insurance on a first gen? We only push like 3k rpm, but our power levels are steadily rising.

Lol pretty soon we're gona see CB pulling plows and discs and stuff through fields with the ole Dodge ;) I'm too broke to be gettin the bombing bug cause i got big payments on a manlift for the next couple years, but after that CB, watch out ima comin ;)

:O the leaking antifreeze repairs? Too bad u didnt live a little further north, i'd like to see wat your truck can do :) Mine would be gutless compared to yours (for now hehe). I think im gona start buyin lottery tickets :) Sorry to hijack ur thread, but can we superchip our trucks?

My truck isn't fast, yet. I just talk big.

Anyways, no, we can't superchip... we do it a better way! SCREWDRIVER BABY YEAH!!!! :D

Antifreeze repairs? That's just a cover... ;)

Looollz ... secret agent CB_Parker ;) I cant wait to start tinkering dude, but im thinkin i better be smart since it is my work truck... b4 i start turnin screwdrivers i should probably:

1) Get guages

2) Get a real transmission

3) Get a bigger exhaust

4) Get better insurance

5) Get to work lol

Are there any tell-tale warnings or some kind of indicators that the H Balancer is due for replacement in any of the members experience?

AL

Excuse me I referred to the HARMONIC DAMPER. Is it possible that with the deterioration of the rubber within the damper its possible to result in additional vibration experienced at perhaps a certain engine RPM due to the lack of dampening?

AL

That's an interesting idea, but I know nothing about it. I have a vibration in my go pedal while passing over 2000rpm in mid-to-heavy throttle.
