Dallas Duramax get together 5-1-04

Austin S.A. get together needs to be planned!

Hi all,

Anyone in the Dallas / Ft Worth area wish to assist in upgrading my 00 QC? :D

Will be installing:

FASS

AFE

Edge Comp

and 275 RV injectors

Edge Comp and AFE shouldn't be to bad but have never installed a FASS or Injectors.

I am in Weatherford (20 miles west of Ft Worth) and should have all the goodies in the next week or so, will be looking at doing the upgrade on Sat 3rd of April or Sun 4th April

Kevin,

Myself and a group of friends have done quite a bit of mods to these and phord trucks. The injectors are pretty simple but there are a couple tools that I have that make it much easier. As for the FASS, no experience with that but we recently installed a Dahl fuel/water separator on an Excursion with little more than what came with it. I will be out of town around the time you are talking about but would be more than happy to help out any other time. With the injectors and Edge box you should really consider installing gauges also. With the exhaust temp gauge you will probably notice that you need some more exhaust. We can do that too. Another guy that does some work around here is Andy Redmond but I don't have any contact info on him. Both of us are in the Plano area. Hope this helps.

If I'm in town and can slip past the warden, I'd really like to come help.

I'm a complete newbie with diesels, but I know one end of a tool from the other and don't mind gettin dirty. :D

Hyde,

What tools are we looking at for the Injectors, I have a good range but no specialised tools :(

BobHall,

You are more than welcome, I too have done quite a bit of mechanic work so know how to use a tool ... but also am fairly new on diesels . . but hey ... an engine is an engine ... suck air and fuel in, push exhaust gas out and hopefully everything in the process keeps turning . . lol

Had the opportunity to meet Doug at SmokingDiesel.com last week in WV ... what a great guy ... gave me lots of good advice ... fixed my dead LP ... well replaced it actually ... and he told me most of the mods are pretty easy if you take your time and have half a brain.

Looking forward to doing this, should give the ole 00 a bit more "get up an go" :D

That's a good haul for me, but I might could make it over for a little while on Sat. I've done the injectors before, so that's no big deal. I haven't done a FASS system yet, but I engineered my own fuel system once, and I'm going to be helping a friend soon with a FASS so it wouldn't hurt me to learn. Let us know the dates for sure and location.

Drop a line to TDR Member JBHale. . I know he's busy. . but he is in our area, and has all the item U mention installed on his truck. . and he's a diesel Tech too. . The fuel system will take the most time. . The injector will be easy...

Good Luck...

Bryan

Attacking the #6 injector line is a pain due to its location, in the back, and the angle towards the back. I've found it very easy with a 3/4" crowfoot wrench. I think I've used both the standard and flare nut variety. I've also seen it done with a stubby combo wrench as well. Let us know how it turns out for you.

Out of town

Okay guys, I am going to have to postpone this a week or two due to me being out of town this weekend, have the goodies but not the time to pull the truck off the road ... that four letter word "WORK" :{

Will keep you posted

Thanks

Kevin
