Urea injection or not?

Hey guys, Dad and I have been bickering for weeks now over what smog equipment is on the new 6. 7's. To my understanding there is a DPF, VVT, and EGR. Dad says that there is also urea injection. That is why it is called a Blue-tec motor (I did not think that it was. I thought that was the Jeeps, etc with diesel that was called a Blue-tec).



Is Dad off his rocking chair, or should I be more respectfull of my elders and their knowledge!!

Your Dad is off of his rocker... there is no urea injection on the 6. 7L.



Blue-tec is just a name and doesn't indicate specific emissions equipment is present on said vehicle.

My understanding is the Blu-Tec engines use urea in the emissions. For example in Jeeps, Mercedes, etc... but not in the Cummins.

Notice the part that said that the urea fluid will be approximately equal in cost to the diesel fuel cost. This filter, that process, this catalyst, that fluid injected = more and more and more and more ... .



It is all about cleaning the emissions as primary focus in the 2003 and newer engines. I think you will have to pry my hands off my 2002 with a Colt 45 before I would buy anything newer unless it was a totally hydrogen powered heavy duty truck with zero emissions adapters / attachments.

I read you only need to fill the urea at oil changes. You don't use it at the same rate as fuel. I thought it allowed the trucks to be tuned for better mileage. Sounds like a win win to me. Like filling up a windshield washer bottle and because of what it is we don't have to get it from the middle east. The gov does not want you to be able to drive the truck without it so they are the holdup right now.

03 and early 04 trucks have no smog equipment... I don't think anyone will want to pry your hands off of your 2002 while you're broke down on the side of the road w/ a dead VP44 there, Chicken Little
