I bought the upgraded contacts and components from Larry B and went to change them out in my starter. When I went to disconnect everything I noticed that I needed one other tool. I tighten everything back up and and when I go to start my truck, the lights are on but the only thing that happens is a crackling noise (kind of like a lotus is how I can describe it).

The truck started ok before just really slow. Could it be a battery issue instead? I noticed that one of the posts is really loose.

Thanks.

yes if the post are not clean or connected tight even with a good starter and charged battery this can happen as well as popping sound coming from the battery post. so . is the sound coming from the post. or clicking due to the starter not having enough juice to turn over. sounds like battery time. good luck

It doesn't sound like a contact issue to me, but a starter problem.

Try hitting the body of the motor itself with a hammer, not really hard but pretty solid, a couple of times then try to start it. If it turns over then, time for a starter.

I switched out the batteries and it started. I still think the contacts have an issue so I will replace them anyway.
