how to use costom aviaters?

Been hunting around for data on stuff this week. I have come across lots of external websites that are linking to forum threads for all kinds of good stuff.

Is there an algorithm that one can use to use the old topic number to find the old threads on this new forum software?

Or was all that old information lost?

Is there a way to use those topic URLs to run a search on the new forum...

etc etc, looking to be creative rather than a complaint.

Thx

PS: as a suggestion, how about creating a script to have the webserver handle those old URL requests so we can still see the old threads???

No way to do it....

The old forum software and new software use completely different methods for post referencing. There's no way to come up with a script to do it as the database reference ids in the new system do not have a specific correlation to the old HTML pages.

Thanks Ken,

Ok, from another tact is there anyway that you could create a search mechanism that would be more 'friendly' for these old threads?

The idea would be for anyone arriving at the site with an old 'ubb' URL to be redirected to a special search engine that might be able to search for just a specific title and to have the date range adjusted to all before the forum conversion date.

I have found it challenging to use the current search engine to look for these old threads. Since running a thread is very limited by the lack of frequent multiple searches (understandably due to the hit to the server).

Probably not worth the effort, but if you have a flash of insight that tells you an easy way to do it, please do!

Thx

Not really...

Not really, unless we reinstall UBB which is something we don't want to go back to.
