Has there ever been discussion citing pros and cons of the 1st gen trucks assembled in the two locations? Was there any service data collected which compares the two assembling locations and lists the most common warranty work performed based the location the truck was built? (NOTE: THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE A NEGATIVE DISCUSSION!) I am not looking for theory or conjecture. I simply wanted to know if there were areas of marginal quality control that should be monitored more closely depending on where a truck was assembled.

This subject come up pretty often - the general concensus seems to be that the Mexican trucks display better overall fit and finish - as well as paint - my own Mexican-built '02 is absolutely flawless, and I'm as critical as they come...

By the way, Ford trucks are also built in both Mexico and Canada, and similar discussions in their group also lean towards better overall quality in the "foreign built" trucks - so it's not just a DC thing...

Mine was "assembeled" in Mexico and has been almost trouble free. It's been to the dealer only twice once for a TSB fix and once for a warranty problem. Both turned out ok. One problem I had was in trying to install BFG Velvet Rire schackles. The spring bolts on the front of the rear springs are in backwards. To get them in you would have to grind the mount rivets off and turn them around then bolt the mounts back on. BFG took back the Velvets and said this was common in the Mexico trucks. All that being said I think the truck is supurb.

Bob , I tried to get velvet ride shackles for my truck 93 (Mexico) and was told to use the 94- up shackles . . My friend has a 94 and his shackles are way different than mine and would not fit . . Do you remember the part # you had... I can remove my shackles without grinding the rivets on mine . I just have to remove my trailer receiver were it mounts along the frame... . Chuck

Sorry Chuck it was a long time ago and the paperwork has long since dissapeared. BFG should be able to supply you with what you need. Good luck.
