I have read several threads on how to change the springs out while leaving the head attached to the engine and they don"t mention the use of air to keep the valves up. Just put the piston at tdc. But I have asked several gaser mechanics and they say I will have to use air to hold them in place?? If you have done this job can you chime in and let me know if it is needed and if so, how?. Will I need to pull out a fuel injector or do I put air in some other way. I got the pac-brake kit to install after the 60# valves spring get changed out. If their are some good threads/forums to follow please point me in the right direction. Thanks TDR's. :)

No air needed, the valves are very long. Put it on tdc for the cylinder you are doing and you will be fine. Just don't drop any keepers

Thankyou Bob for your reply, That's one less thing to think about when I do this mod. I have another question about the seals but will start a new thread just incase someone else wants to add info to this one.

Gas motors have a larger air gap between piston and head when at TDC, which correlates to lower compression. The valves will not drop much at all if timed right.

Altough you can do 1 and 6, 2&5 and 3&4 at the same time I prefer doing each cylinder at compression TDC individually. Then once the springs are installed you can adjust valve lash upon reassemble and that cylinder is finished.

I have been doing it like this. go to #1 tdc change #1 ex then I go thru the firing order #5 is next then 3-6 -2 and 4. but dieseldemon has a better method. go to #1 tdc
change #1 and #6 then go to #5(the next in order) change #5 and #2 then go to #3 (the next in order)change #3 and #4 and you're done. sounds like a good method.
I think I'll try that next time.
