Somewhere I heard the rumor that leaving the EB on all the time (as many on here recommend) to save brakes and keep the turbo clean can diminish fuel mileage. Can anyone confirm or deny this rumor?
 
The question I have why would it hurt your mpg. The brake does not engage until you let your foot of the go pedal. Like you said it's rumor founded on no facts
 
On my 2010 I have driven with it on all the time since new, its worth a bit worse fuel economy to me vs. having a sooted up turbo. Now I can say this, on my 98. 5 with a PAC brake, I know my economy was worse when I drove using it often vs not using it but once or twice for a faster stop per tank of fuel. Just my experience and observation under the same driving conditions, proving it time and time again when I experimented with it.
 
It would make sense that keeping the RPMs up with the EB would use more fuel than letting it go to idle. I think it would be very small amt since there is 0 boost + 0 throttle.
 
I can't speak for the 2010 or later trucks since the software in the ECM maybe different then the 2008's. But I use to run my EB all the time to keep the Turbo clean after the first dealer cleaning of the Turbo and I saw no difference in my fuel mileage. I have tracked my fuel mileage and cost from day one.

I now no longer worry about soot build up in the Turbo, but I still use the EB for help in stoping on the highway and when pulling the 5er.

"If you play, you pay" These trucks are are light years ahead of the 89 CTD. It is just part of the cost of owning a truck capable of towing a house. :)
