When running the exhaust brake, I come to the end of my travel, and the truck is running at 400-500 EGT (pre turbo). I guess I am supposed to turn off the brake and let the turbo cool off to <300 deg?

Sure is nice having heat in the morning now without having to drive 10 miles first!

Did the install last night in the driveway, 1. 5 hours, 23 deg out. You got to do what you got to do.

You DEFINATELY have to turn the exhaust brake off and let it cool down for a while before shutting down. If you actually use your exhaust brake to stop the last couple of times you will need to let it idle for at least 5 minutes to get the EGT's down. I usually turn mine off a couple of minutes before I'm going to stop and shutdown.

I've got to agree with Steve here.

Yup, that brake holds all the heat from being able to escape. I have found that if I take the top street home to my house and I cruise down the hill in gear with no throttle into my driveway, I don't have to wait as long for it to cool down. It makes sense, no more heat will be produced if I'm not giving it any juice and there is no load on the engine, but since the engine is turning faster than idle, it pushes all that heat out.
