Well, the time has come. Our recently expanded family has resulted in my '92 W350 Club Cab being inadequate for our needs. After doing an extensive Internet search I just bought a 2003 QC 2wd with 13k miles from a Dodge dealer in south-west Missouri.

It has the standard output 250HP engine mated to the 48re, which fits my needs perfectly and is what I wanted for maximum fuel economy. On the drive home Saturday I had the cruise set at 77mph, the rpms were at 2150, and the mileage computer averaged 22. 7 (I know, the readout isn't always accurate, but it's better than I even hoped for). I couldn't be happier with the mileage or the truck in general. This '03 drives, handles and rides like a dream! :D

For anyone interested, my '92 is now up for sale... ...

On the late 2003 SO models it could go either way. Mine was built in late March, and has the DGA & DG8 codes on the glovebox data tag, which I'm 99% sure means the 48re. I believe they used up the remaining 47re trannys on the SO trucks built in January and February. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.
