Hi Guys: I need your advice and help finding a used turbo. I just installed an Edge EZ module on my 01 DTC with auto. It runs great and gets better mileage , but I can't get over 20 psi of boost. The advice I was given was that I need to go to a HX35 Holset turbo which was standard on the HO Dodge of that year. It was mentioned that turbo lag might be more noticable. Any other advice would be appreciated and does anyone have a used but in good shape HX35 that they would like to sell. I would go to a BD turbo but cost is a concern. Any thoughts . Thanks for your help. Brett

used turbo

Thanks for your reply BDougherty. Iwas told that my turbo does not allow for that. I really don't know but remember that mine is the HY35 turbo. If that part will do the trick then Ij'm in. Help. Brett

I used to have an HY35 when I first bought a TST programmer, and it came with a "J" hook. I think you need it to build boost! I"d look into that as your problem! My turbo didn't last long though, so I had to replace it.

The HX35 has a tube running to the wastegate actuator.

Several things you can do.

1. Adjust the wastegate actuator (if possible - some are non adjustable) to open at a higher boost.

2. Install a "boost elbow" which acts as a pressure restriction to the wastegate actuator.

3. Remove the current elbow and plug the hole in the compressor housing, eliminating the wastegate.

As mentioned your hy has a hardlined wastegate. Hence the need for a j hook. You wont be able to use a boost elbow due to the hardline. Some have taken the tube off and put a spent 22 shell in it to essentially block it off, others use a j-hook. As sticks mentioned you may be able to adjust the setting of the wastegate but then again may not. The j hook is the easy answer. And for 5 bucks at the hardware store for a turnbuckle you cant hardly go wrong.

If the only mod you have is the EZ you will notice more lag with the hx35 than currently. IIRC on my 01 when I had just an ez and j hook I might hit 25-26 psi. Certainly not much more than that.

Also dont expect more power with the j hook just higher boost pressure, and a little better egt control.

Thanks Guys; I'll try the J hook. I understand that the power will not be increased but my egt is higher now so hoping this will help. Is this device something i can buy at the hardware store or is there a source for this part? Thanks, Brett

Hi again Guys; Sorry to bother you with my silly questions. I re-read Bdaughterty message and got the part # from OC Deisel. Thanks for all your help Brett.

My bad. I thought he had picked up a used HX to replace his HY and wanted to get more out of it.

I know better than to post before my coffee.

Hi Sticks; I've orderded the J hook. I appreciate all the help. But where is Pondwater Colo. I've lived in colo all my life but have no Idea where you are. Let me know, maybe I'll come and stop by for a cup of coffee. Thanks, Brett

Pondwater is the affectionate term for the incorporated city that I live in that is part of the western edge of the Denver Metro area.
