this sums it up

I was sitting here reading several post about the pro's and con's of wvo, using used motor oil, etc...

Has anyone used this stuff to heat their home, modified a heater or anything else. Correct me if im wrong but isn't there a barrel stove you can use or modify to burn used motor oil, what would be the difference in that and wvo, or am i thinking way off base?

Hello

I have talked to a few that are doing this so your not crazy your just thinking outside the box. a fuel oil fired boiler or heater or any thing will work if it burns it will work... .

We have had people use it around here. They just have a standard fuel oil fired furnace and drop it in. Just change your filter before you fill up with it and after you operate a little while or keep one on hand.

I am thinking about a Kuma oil stove, they say it works well with bio and could burn some pretty dirty stuff too like used motor oil (just filter it good first). So it should do straight WVO if it's heated. Just requires more frequent cleaning of the burn pot, which they say is not difficult to do, and if that part deteriorates it's not very expensive to replace ($75).

The Arctic model is approx $1100 http://www.kumastoves.com/oil_stoves

I own a dog boarding kennel and was getting fed up with paying the continuing rising cost of Natural Gas to heat it. I looked into some different options and ended up getting a 175000 BTU oil burning heater from a company called cleanburn. They came and installed the heater with all the plumbing including a reuseable filter and a 250 gal oil storage tank. I have been burning used oil, WVO, used transmission fluid, and Hyd fluid in it with absolutely no problems. Advertised burn rate is 1. 2 gal/hr. It will pay for itself. I figure I have saved at least a $1000 this winter alone. Total cost including a air operated pump to transfer fuel to the holding tank and additional 55 gal drums to store the fuel was about $7500. 00. I get used oil from local auto repair shops an WVO from a local restaraunt, all for free. I use the additional WVO and make DSE for my 98 Dodge 12V.
