I had my ecm updated with a Smarty to enable the 6cyl. high idle and 3cyl. high idle. This feature works well but, like most, I am looking for a high idle I can controll.

Anyone know what can be done?

The user controlled hi idle from the factory is a 3rd gen feature for the Dodge.

I beleive the medium duties with the vp had it,but their ecm is not the same as the Dodge. On the 2nd gen you will have to use your creativity. If I had one I would use a solenoid off a GM product used to acheive hi idle at cold start such as what was used in the 70's. They are not strong enough to lift the throttle but once energized they will hold the linkage up after you tap the throttle with your foot.

It's not my page, but there is a write-up you can take a look at here:

I have ahigh idler from Practical Solutions that I do not use. If your interested just send me a pm. Plugs in-line with your APPS and is controlled by a reostat in the truck.

Do any companies still make some sort of a plug in high idle setup? I like the idea of the automatic deal in the ECM from either the Dodge dealer or a Smarty but I also would like to have manual operation of it. I'm thinking someone has to make some sort of a kit that plugs in? I saw all of the diagrams and stuff on another site to make one but I'd be willing to pay the money if someone out there had a kit that would plug inline or something.

The Practical solutions idler mentioned above is a nice unit. I use mine all the time. Unlike the ECM controlled idle, this can be used in gear for a low speed cruise control (not on the highway of course. ) Kinda puts the truck in tractor mode.

I suppose the cheap, easy, way would be to go to the auto parts store and pick up a manual choke cable kit for an old carburated engine. You could put the cable on some point of the throttle system in the engine bay and run the handle under the dash. Pull the handle and the throttle will act as if you're stepping on the pedal. You should be able to lock it in place to high idle it. Very crude, but effective. We have a couple of older International trucks at work that have come from the factory like this and it works very well. It's what they did before the computers completely took over everything.
