Mine leaks a little bit. Thought about doing one of those quick disconnect things. Someone gave me the idea of of using a hydraulic fluid coupling. Anyone done this?

I use the Spring loaded one from Geno's, the EZ Change. comes with a drain hose and you just screw it on and drain as fast or slow as you please. Bought the first one years ago for my 89 and have had no problems with it in over 250K miles, and I put one on my Y2K. They really work great. :)

Gary,

Wouldn't that leave quite a chunk of hardware sticking down, out in the wind, from your oil pan? One that would be susceptible to being knocked off by a rock or other solid object?

I have Geno's one-touch valve and it sticks down more than I'd like (only and inch or so) and have often thought of replacing it with the spring-loaded one like joemyers has (lower profile).

I guess it would stick out. I don't know too much about the other products that genos has. To me one looks like one could get knocked open and the other looks like the spring and o ring would wear out and start leaking to me. Any problems so far from anyone?

The EZ will not leak, cause after you're done with the hose, you take it off the hose and screw on the brass cap, which has an "O" ring in it. The ring prevents leaks and keeps the cap on. I just measured one of mine and with the cap on it sticks down 1/4 inch below the bottom of the pan. I have had one on the 89 sence Geno's started selling them(probably at least 10 years and it has never leaked or given me any kind of problem. JMTCW :)

Is the EZ the same as the one Fram sells?

Gary

I don't think so, I purchased one of the Frams a WM for my wifes PTC and it isn't the same as the ones I got from Geno's for the trucks.

I have one of the one's from Geno's.

Once - I was not paying really good attention on an oil change. Emptied the pan as usual. Closed the drain, put the cap back on. Went up top to refill the oil. 11 quarts, right? well, gallon #1, gallon #2, got interrupted, gallon #? - oh, right #1, put in #2 (the second time), gallon #3. Check the dip stick, whoa, WAY too much oil.

Oh, well, back under, screw on the hose slightly, drain the extra gallon and set it aside, NO PROBLEM :D

The little adjustable flow valve came VERY HANDY!

The drains from Geno's are open centered and gravity flow oil easily. One major down fall of using a Hydraulic QD, like those found on implements and equipment, they usualy have some sort of check valve and intricate passages-- none are "straight thru". They are made to flow oil under pressure, and that oil is probly alot thinner than engine oil. Even hot, I know Bobcat branded hyd. oil is thinner than 15-40 engine oil.
