Has anyone used their smarty to enable the fast idle on their 04. 5 6-speed truck? I’m assuming I can just buy the parts needed from the dealer and use the smarty to enable the fast idle myself. Winter is coming soon, and a fast idle would be nice. That along with the code reading capability, and extra power, is making the smarty very tempting right now.

And anyone could anyone that has the high idle activated tell, me just how high it can be set, and at and at what increments can it be increased at?

I have heard of others doing this. I had the dealer turn it on when I had the long crank TSB done. then I had to buy the parts. I went back and searched out the part numbers for you. I think it ran just over $50. 00 for parts, and cummins had them in stock. The dealer wanted around $300. 00 for there kit.

Here is the old post:

3164363 is a cable around 4" long with the correct pin on the end for the Dodge ECU's

3871395 is a clutch switch made for Jacobs. I found no "pre drilled" mounting holes anywhere in the truck that looked like it would work. there has to be a bracket they sell with the kit nobody has. I had to use a piece of alunimum around 1" x 2" to make a mounting bracket. While this switch don't look like its really the one for the application (the actuater spring is a little long), it works.

This switch has a spring sticking out the end of it, with a 1" piece of round plastic on the end. Move the spring just a little bit in any direction and the switch closes.

The spring hits against the clutch pedel. As long as the spring it in its relaxed position the switch is open, when the clutch pedel is touching it, it is closed providing ground to the ECM pin.

PS: I had the dealer turn on the high idle before installing the switch, once the switch was added the high idle worked

This sure is different than for the 2nd gen trucks. Smarty does this and it is simply software. All of the Smarty tunes include it. No hardware required.

Initial set will run idle to 1100 rpms. You can then increase in 100 rpm increments to 1500 rpm.

If you are not worried about the clutch switch just get the wire for the PTO pin and ground it. Obviously if you let the clutch out it will not kill the high idle but at times that is what is wanted.

Thanks, this is just the info I needed. I called the local cummins dealer and they can get me the clutch switch, but the other number comes up as some kind of tool. Are you sure that's the correct number? I have also talked to my dealer and they are looking into it, and I'm a waiting to hear back from them.

Well, this looks like the cheapest way of doing things. I just might go this way. I was hopeing to get at least 1700 rpm out of the high idle, but 1500 will have to do.

Thanks,

Your right, I typed the number wrong.

(wire) # 3164263 $12. 00 (switch) #3871395 $42. 00

Here is the original thread

I will see if I have time (and remember) to take a picture of how I mounted the switch tomorrow.
