i have installed a mile marker 12000lb 75 series hydraulic winch in a ute bumper. the first time i used it, to put the cable on,the valve was making a buzzing noise and got very hot. called mm tech. support they ended up sending me a new valve. but i still have the same problem. the royal purple ps fluid was 150*!! i ended up calling winches plus were i bought the winch from. the ute bumper has an access port on the driver side so i had to mount the winch moter on the pass. side(witch you can do according to mm)but when you do that you have to have a different valve that is cut so you can put the restrictor disc in either port. no where in mm instructions do they tell you this information. winches plus recomended just removing the disc. (mm states that the disc is to maintain back pressure when lowering a load). i have been to a 4X4 sight and one responce to a post where a pump had failed do to overheating was to remove the disc also. at this point i am so frustrated with mm and there lack of information and there tech. support is a joke!! so my questions are do you think any damage was done to my hydraulic system? and should i just remove the flow disc or try to deal with mm again to see if they can get me the right valve for my mount. on a positive note winches plus was very helpful and i would recomend them for all your winching needs. my mistake was i should have called them first. thanks for all replies.

Thanks GFrance, i had used john’s post for my original install. My winch is positioned just like john’s is because of the access port on our utes. He has a different valve than i do, it might not be the 75 series.

On another note, those that bought this bumper and winch cradle who are planning to install a 12000lb winch later are going to be in for a surprise. This winch does not fit!! First, I had to notch the cradle and weld a piece of flatstock to it. I also had to raise the ac radiator, which is putting strain on the connection; then re-drill the mounting holes on the ute mounting bracket and lower the bumper by 3/4". Finally i still had to bend some of the radiator fins so that the solenoid valve would not hit. Unfortunately this is not over yet… My setup is still not operational yet (per my orig post).

Sounds like alot of work. I doubt if I'll be adding a winch, for I don't go fourwheelin anymore. She's just a towing machine.

winch update

i went ahead and removed the flow disc. problem fixed no noise and no heat. i was able to lower my truck down about a 15*angle on a paved road. (the maximum vertical angle that mm recomends) without any freespooling. this should be fine for me and my intended use of this winch. thank winches plus.
