I've finished my bed weeks ago and drove only about one thousand miles since but I can't decide what would be the better way to fasten it on the frame.
I've re-used the same locations than the OEM bed (but with 4 bolts and nuts in front and rear), and that's making them solid.
I've read several times that on big trucks it's a good idea to make the front fasteners flexible (just behind the cab) to put less stress on the frame at this location and prevent any cracking.
On my 21 years pick up, do you think it would be a good idea to put some springs or bushings on the front bolts to let a little controled play and to be nice with this old frame ?

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

I had a 3500 box truck that was converted to a flatbed (before I got it). The place sandwiched a piece of wood between the frame and the bed for "cushion". Don't have the truck anymore for a visual. The wood seamed to have also been treated with something.

Good idea to add some cushion. My 95 Club Cab Long Bed had the right front mount crack after about 100k miles with a 3300# camper. Had it welded and it lasted another 175,000 miles, till I sold it.

Here is how it’s done on some big trucks to give you an idea...
