Well, it passed quietly. Didn't hear or see anything on the TV or radio about it, but Japan surrendered to US forces aboard the USS Missouri, September 2, 1945. Thanks WWII Vets.

My Uncle served in the South Pacific during WW-2. We are diminished by the passing of this "Greatest Generation" GregH
 
There are some nice things about RI, but the only thing I brag about is that we still celebrate V. J. Day, even if we call it Victory Day. My uncle used to tell me about a friend of his from Allagash ME. who was a P. O. W. in the South Pacific. What the Japanese did to these men was unforgivable.

To say the least.

John Bradley wrote an excellent book, "Flyboys: A true story of courage". He explains in detail the atrocities committed against POW's in the Chichi Jima POW camp.
