So I have everything in and truck runs and drives great (thanks steve!). I have a 96 pcm and wire harness and a 97 truck. I have no guages except oil pressure. I started noticeing that the charging system was not charging then after reasearching i found out that it gets its trigger from the crank pos sensor, then i checked for my 5 volts to the sensor and thats how i got to the problem at hand. I have 12v into the pcm, all grounds connected that I know of and have checked. I have 80mv to 1v comming out of where my 5 volt should be comming out of. its 80mv with key on and when I close the asd relay w/ key on it jumps up to 1v. i have checked everything I can think of and have looked at so many schematics I could puke. I am starting to think the pcm I got is bad. please guide me in the right direction and sorry for teh lengthy post.

The 'wait to start' light not working can be a major indicator that the PCM is bad, but that would depend if it's cold enough where you are to trigger it.

You can usually get codes off the dash by cycling the key. On trucks with digital readout dashes they show up as numbers. On older trucks (94, 95, 96?) you read flashes of the MIL (malfunction indicator light - or check engine light). The factory manual has a section on this.

Since you do not have 5 volts from the PCM for the sensors, my guess is that the PCM is bad, but I would want to check codes and other PCM pins prior to spending $500 on a PCM. I went through this last summer and details are in my older posts on the TDR. It may help a little to read them.

have you changed the ac controls if not

you have no wait to start cuz your truck was a v10. if i rember right you have to change the ac control to get the diesel lights like wait to start, water in fuel, ect.

how good of shape was the wire harn?

i went threw a couple of them to get a good one.

prod at the wire a little farther back in the harnes to see if its bad wire or the pcm is a p. o. s plus you can look at the main harnes plug to get voltage also look at all you pins on your wire harn to see if they are out of shape, bent barly touching ect, it can drive you up a wall.

good luck, Austin

i am getting no wait to start light, and i have no idea if there are any codes, no scan tool

I switched out everything that was different on the v10 from diesel. i checked the pcm at the pins going out and its shot. new ones on its way. i think i have a asd relay problem too. its getting no power but if i read right it gets a voltage from the pcm so that would explain that too.
