Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) V44

Hey guys, How to I convince Dodge tohonor the 100,000 mile warranty on the V44. They keep saying it's not part of the Cummins warranty and that I am over the mileage at 86,000. HELP.

Tell them to punch in the part number under your vin and correct mileage and show you where it says no warranty. The Dodge computer systems will tell you whether a part is under warranty or not based on your vin.

Don't give in or up keep on there arses!! The VP-44 fuel pump is a cummins part and is warrentied to the 100k mile mark. Do you have stock tires size on there? This could be the only loop hole they could stand on and even at that the odometer would have to be way off. Did you buy it new? Odometer ever replaced? Maybe call a local Cummins dealer and see if they would call the dumb dealer to inform them that the pump IS part of the engine.

I just had mine changed at 78,000. No questions asked. "bring it in and we will take care of it" You need a dealer with a good diesel tech. they will have seen it before.

This is really bugging me because I have seen a list of what is covered and not covered by the warranty and the injection pump is, my cam position sensor was not. If you go to the dodge web site and look up the cummins warranty it shows that 2003-4 trucks are covered for the VP-44. Do you still have your warranty book that came with your truck? It is spelled out in there, I have no idea where mine is, it's not in my truck. Unless there is another side of this story it most definantely should be covered by the warranty (5yr/100,000 mi). Find a different dealership, have you called the customer assistance line, they have a list of what is covered and what is not.

The only thing I did when I took mine in was remove the E-Z. I left the BHAF, Modified exhaust. I also have 305 70 r16 tires.

I have my own DRBIII. The test tool that the dealer uses. I told them what codes were set, how many times I reset them. Gave them the rest of the symptons. When the dealer couldn't get it started they pushed it into the tech's stall. He didn't even check it out. He called DC and had a pump in it by noon the next day.

DJ, just go to the chrysler wed site and call the customer service number. They will get all the info from your truck and tell you if it is covered and then they will call the dealer also. My truck had 82,000 on it when the vp let go and it was covered. But the dealer tried charging me for what they called Diesel Diagnostics. I called the customer service center for Dodge and they agreed that this was a covered componet and I owed nothing. Hope this helps. shakey

Your 1999 Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warrantee is likely similar to the 2000 Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warrantee which lists "fuel injection pump & injectors" under the items covered for 5 years or 100,000 miles.



As others have suggested, a call to the D/C Corp. Customer Center at 800. 992. 1997 may get things going.

Have you reached...

the 5 year mark yet? If so, by-by warranty. If not and there is another dealer reasonably close, take it to them. This might be a bad omen for the first dealer.

Dude, the Napa dealer tried to pull one of the worst games of all time. They wanted $10,000 for repairs including a new pump, warranty canceled. Cummins West fixed it for $500!



Sure your pump is toast?



A buddy was having trouble with his truck and the dealer (Lithia Concord) told him they would need to take the Holley pump off and install a stock lift pump and replace the larger lines with the smaller stockers. They said the 14 pounds of pressure the Holley was producing was NOT ENOUGH! Obviously they have not tested any stock LP's. Anyway, repairs were to cost $5,000. 00.



Haven't seen many dealers worth a hoot.

had the stumble/ no pedal response/ no power thing for a few weeks. took it in at 73,400 and had to show them the odometer code reader trick to get the 0216. Two days later I picked it up and was told I had a new lift pump. I told them I'd be back for a vp44 and 2 days later I took it back- same problem. I got a call from the post service PR guy that day as a follow up to my first trip in. When he asked how I felt about my service experience i let him have an earful about my vp44 and DC and the TDR and how I felt that they wouldn't take the time to go duplicate the problem. He called back 6 minutes later and said that "they" were able to duplicat and that he had called star to authorize the pump. Picked up the truck and the odometer was the same as when I took it in!! I guess I got to talk to a problem solver...



Your Vp44 is absolutly covered under 100,000 cummins



go somewhere else... your warranty is from cummins, not the seller!

Cummins has nothing to do with the warranty, its upto Dodge to cover the engine warranty.

I meant the 5 year, 100,000 warranty follows his Cummins and has nothing to do with what One Dodge dealer states about his warranty!



He should go somewhere else.

2003-2004 don't have a vp44. Thay are common rail.
