CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THE VA BOX CAN BE DETECTED,I AM HAVING A FUEL PROBLEM,AND A DIESEL MEC. TOLD ME MY FUEL PRESURE WAS LOW,LIKE ALMOST 0,AND GOT TO TAKE IT IN,BUT THE DEALER SAID THEY HAVE TO SEND ALL DATA TO DC,AND THEY WILL ISSUE A LIFT PUMP,THAT IS WHAT THE MECHANIC SAID WAS WRONG,I JUST WONDER IF THEY CAN DETECT THE VABOX,I WAS LOOSING POWER COMING HOME FROM TENNESSEE,AND THEY CHECKED FUEL PRESSURE,AND SAID MOST LIKELY LIFT PUMP,ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED. .

Dave -

I haven't heard of the VA box being detected my the mechanics or their test equipment, but I have heard of them placing a sticker over the connection when you take it in for service, so they will know in the future if you've put a VA back on. A friend of mine sprayed a silicone sealant over the connection before he went in, and the sticker didn't take to it too well. If you're curious, look at some of the other trucks in the service bay, or better yet right after they leave and see if they've been "stickered. " Good luck.

Dave,

You might want to turn off the cap lock key. It's sort of like SHOUTING if you get my meaning.

Sorry to hear you're havin' a problem. Hope all goes all well on getting the lift pump. Keep us posted.

Dave65,see my post of 12/18 about pump being replaced under warranty. I'll E Mail you some details.

Your ECM shouldn't have any codes stored in it from the Van Aaken box. If you want to check... cycle your ingnition key on/off three times, but don't start the truck and leave it in the 'on' position the third time,to see if any codes show up in the odometer window.

If you have any codes show up that you don't want the dealer to find, just take your truck by an independant repair shop or other brand car dealer, and have them clear your codes for you before you go to the dealer.

My truck has been back to the dealer a few times, and they didn't put any stickers on it.

David,

Last year at May Madness, Cummins had a tent setup on the parking lot to check our ECM history. I took my truck in after removing the VA box and it didn't show up on their computer readouts. I then asked the Cummins rep why it doesn't show up and he said that Dodge doesn't use all the outputs in the ECM which doesn't show up in the readouts. If Dodge used the Cummins ECM like on a medium duty truck(Freightliner), yes it would show up.

I have had the diesel tech from my Dodge dealership in my truck with the DC scanner hooked up on a road test. No Codes. We stopped after we were about a mile from the dealership and reinstalled the VA with the scanner still hooked up and NO CODES! We then went tearing down a rural road and he was blown away at the difference. We then went back to the dealership and got the Service Manager. The Tech told him: You gotta drive this truck! So off we went again. It's great to have a cool dealer!

VA can't be detected , but ted j. says that the PE , blue box, et al leaves a clue in the ECM .

dealer installing stickers on those that didn't have them to begin with ??? that will be a fun one if that happens to me . didn't come originally equipped with one , won't have one when it leaves , i like the WD 40 trick . will use that when i take it in for my second steering box . if it does have one , i'll call out the service manager and the mechanic that installed it and they can watch me remove it .

brian , i was wondering how long before someone dup'ed those stickers ... maybe geno's garage will stick them in with orders ... #ad
