I am considering the Van Aaken CPC as the first power upgrade. Since there seems to be a number of used ones for sale, what P/N is the correct one for a 2001 ETH - or is there only one version for the 24V's? Is there anything else to consider - such as a rev. level? Anyone wanting to sell one please e-mail me. Thanks

The VA CPC is a one unit fits all 98. 5 - up ISB 24V. It is designed to work within the limits of the electronic fuel pump.

Hi ISB!, Hey the Other Night, I was Surfin the net, And ran across Van Aakin's Website. I checked it out because they had added to it since last winter. If I am not mistaken, I think VA has a Box just for the ETH now.
BUT I could be wrong!. Check it out. I dont have the web address for ya, Sorry about that.

BTW. The VA Box Has done wonders for my "low end" Pulling power! Were as the 275hp injectors Helped the top end speed.
Doug.

ISB RAMBO, there has been a revision in the VA CPC, the later version appears to have a wider and slightly longer case. Piers told me they have improved the heat sinking with the latest revision as well. Other noteworthy additions are: the gaskets have been upgraded from cork/neoprene to neoprene and the seal at the wire loom to module box juncture has been improved to eliminate water intrusion. Eliminated from the latest design (as well as its immediate predecessor) are the slotted mounting tabs which allow bolt on mounting if preferred. Double-back tape and double back Velcro tape is supplied for mounting the VA CPC module.

Duh, we all understood the jab HVAC and Brandon. #ad

Wow, glad I asked the question! Maybe I don't want a used one if it is down level based on all the improvements. I went to the VA web site and didn't see any specific mention to the ETH (maybe I just couldn't find it). Anyway, I sent a message to Van Aaken Development asking if there is a specific model for the ETH and what is the latest P/N and/or Revision Level. I will post this when they send a reply (This will be good info to have when calling Bully Dog or one of their competitors). Thanks

Rambo. . go back to the VA web site and look under FAQ's (frequently asked questions) and you will see it applies to the 2001 model year trucks. I have one on my 2001 ETH and it works great... It doesn't have any pin #'s on it that I can see except verbage (cummins 24v). Don't hold your breath from a reply from Van Aaken, I have sent the 5-emails and never got a response over 4-months ago. .

HeberRam, I think you're right about VA not responding - it's been two days and no response. What I'm doing now is contacting a number of suppliers and asking the same questions. Someone out there is going to get my business.

If anyone has purchased a VA CPC in the last month please send me, or post, your P/N (I guess this relates to the revision level). Thanks

ISB Rambo, I bought My VA About a Month Ago, and I Like It. Its the Old Version #ad
I guess according to John Post. But I like it anyway.
But Like John Said The New Version has Larger Heat sinks?. It needs it, at least in the Desert South west. Man Does it get hot after a 3hr drive in 108*f weather.

About the VA Website, There is a Pull down Menu in the Inquiry form, It asks if you have a ETC or ETH. I dont know why this is, If "One Size Fit All". Thats why I thought there might be different version (More Power)for the ETH. Sorry if this Confused anyone.
Doug.

Lets look at it this way, consider the R# as the "Run #" #ad

The higher the R# the newer or most current production run. The earlier models were manufactured using design specs and the newer models are modified to improve on all those little hickups from the field and manufacturing improvements for the environment that they are used. There are VA CPCs (now Plug-in Power) / BD Plug-N-Powers in use all over the US, Canada, and parts unknown so they have to function in all our weather conditions, thus the improvements.

This is not to say that the programming within the device has changed at all, there are older, first run units out there working fine #ad

Like my Dad used to say "If it works don't #$%* with it"

Now to answer some other points if I can, the programming within the VA is designed to access the unused limit of the electronic fuel pump #ad
here we go again.

The Bosch fuel pump has performance/power limits set into it from the manufacturer. Cummins / Dodge set their ECMs to tap into, lets say for arguement sake, 80% of that limit. The VA taps into the fuel pump computer and accesses the additional 18 or 19% of usable performance. Keeping in mind you don't want to go over the usable limit of the pump because then you end up with trouble codes and pump failures, leading to warranty voiding problems and big $s.

If you have an early model ISB you will see a performance increase of @18% and if you have a high output ISB you will NOT see the full 18%, but @9% power increase because Cummins/Dodge increased the limit to 90% of the pump's power limit, that is why some folks were a little disappointed with the power increase on their high output engines. #ad

I am using these value numbers as a guesstimate only and for discussion sake, the actual values are design specs and VanAaken owns those #ad

Just my theory, I hope it helps and if I'm totally offbase, please prove me wrong #ad

PS - If you want to buy a USED VA box, remember no original bill of sale, NO WARRANTY #ad

TD, great reply as to how the VA works. You pretty much hit it right. Your right on the money as to the difference between the ETH/ETC motors as well. Regards Pete

Well TD, you wrecked my day - but I'm glad you did. Thanks!! Seems like the VA is not for the ETH. What I'm looking for is a modest power upgrade for the low and mid range rpm for towing a 10,000# travel trailer. Maybe DDII's are the answer.

If anyone is interested, I contacted 3 vendors for the VA and none got back with the information relating to the latest 'heavy duty' model. Without giving any pricing information, let me just state that the current best deal is from Ted Jannetty for this month only.
