I think if it were me I would head south as quick as I could to avoid any slleet or snow and stuff. Then take I 10 to the west. May be quicker ways but this is the way I would go.

Okie's advice is right on any year but this one. I know two people who drove from the NE to Calf in the past three weeks, both hit snow and ice in Texas and New Mexico, the rest was smooth sailing. Best bet is to watch the weather reports.

That's a good choice, the most likely place to have a problem would be in the TX area or 30/20 or 10, but not as likely as your other options.

We are just off 40 in west TN and use that route to SO CA every year, in fact will be headed that way later in the month.

I-70 at the Kansas/ Colo border can whip up some storms. West from Denver through the Eisenhower Tunnel at the divide, Vail Pass and Glenwood Canyon can be awful at times too! Unless you plan on doing some skiing or like adventures in winter driving, I would recommend a more southern route. If it were summer I would be saying just the opposite. Colorado road conditions number for those interested: 303. 639. 1111

It doesn't snow in Flagstaff anymore, we're having a budget crisis in Arizona and can't afford to plow snow so we cancelled it:D

I-40 or I-10 is always my choice, I look at the weather and then decide on North or South route the day before.

one way or the other, we are venturing into new territory. any states that are really bad as far as the dot regs for pickups? my partner is going to be in an f550, and has a commercial lisc, i'll be in my 3500 ctd. same load. . and i have all the requirements medically and legally, but as long as i can gross under 26000, refuse to pay the extra taxes and costs of a commercial license.
