I have a 1997 Dodge diesel 4X4 automatic. My vaccum pump assembly is leaking. Dodge want $100. 00 for the part. I haeard somewhere I can get a Ford part for about $20. 00.

I believe I heard somethng about it being electric instead of oil. Can this be done? What part number? Any problems converting from oil to electric.

Thanks,

Mike Anderson

mra4646,

You can get gasket/seal kit from Dodge but you will need the vacuum pup seal which has to be bought seperately. The pump is gear driven with oil passing through the pump to keep it cool.

But you already knew this.

CPFF has seals and kits or he used to have them. Try e-mailing him.

The electrical vacuum pumps are not as expenisive as the mechanical pump and should not be hard to set up.
