I found one at NAPA last summer. It did not fit my 96 - looked like it was for a 24V - had the oil port rotated too close to the block to line up with the stock line. It was pricy - something like $385 - but better than the D/C shop cost of $760+.

Before you assume bad vacuum pump check VERY closely for bad vacuum lines. I got bit by a cracked elbow on the cruise canister vacuum line up under the battery. Found it by accident before I changed out the pump. Saved me big $$$$$ and wife was happy - more money for her to spend.

Good luck.

Hi Guys,

Still at work so I checked out the pump thing for you. Cummins does not offer a reman pump. The part number for a new one is 3925102 which supercedes to 4089187. No Cummins branch on the East Coast has any nor does the Cummins factory!! How bad is yours? There has been a trend up here lately to buy take out 5. 9 engines from wrecked Dodges and repower skidders with them. Given a little time I might be able to find one. It would be something they would not use on that application and would get tossed aside. Also just to add to the fun, the best price I could give you on the cummins pump is 506. 05 !!! That is scary.

As they have said above, Good Luck.

Mike

Try asking a Cummins shop if they will rebuild your pump. I bought a pump on ebay that was rebuilt by Cummins, so they should be able to rebuild yours.

Another alternative that works excellent is to buy a electric vacuum pump for a Ford and mount it on your firewall. Easy job and way under $100.

Thanks for the input I will try the electric pump from Ford. I put a gauge on the system and it did not leak down. Truck has just short of 200k miles the pump is getting tired. Thanks for the help!!!!

Nice Idea on the electric pump. Only bad thing I can think of is if anything happens to the origional one (bearing going bad, etc. ) you would be putting front gear train of engine at risk. Maybe something could be done to remove it and still keep power steering. Just a thought. Seen it happen on rear of Detroit Diesels before with gear driven pumps.
