My power steering fluid is coming up really foamy and sometimes leaks past the seal where the steering shaft enters the steering gear box. Is it possible that the vacuum pump is venting into the power steering pump and making it frothy? Is the vacuum pump on 1st gen trucks the same as on 2nd gen? On occasion the brake light will come on when I'm standing on the brake at a stop light. I figured on fixing it when I was forced to. Anyone had this happen or have some advice to offer? Thanks.

The seal needs replaced at the stub shaft if it's leaking. You can do this with out a full rebuild. Right on the truck. There was a stick thread here about that job at one point. I have the address to the thread if you can't locate it.

The vacuum pump is the same. You can rebuild it with the kit. It contains a seal. I'm not sure what you rebuild with a seal R&R but it seems popular. I dunno.

I can't say if the vacuum pump would effect the PS pump that way. Doubt it. You have an air leak most likley. Is the oil the proper oil? How do you know? \

The wrong oil will foam. I'd get all that oil outthat you can when you change the seal and introduce the system to the Valvoline Syn-Power PS synthetic oil. You won't go wrong with this stuff.
