Hi Gang,

I started up the truck this AM and heard a "hissing" coming from under the dash. On closer inspection, I found that if I depressed the brake pedal approx. 1/2 inch, the "hissing" would stop. There was some moisture on the rubber boot at the FW, but this did not taste, smell, or "feel" like brake fluid. Checked the fluid level in the master cyl. but it was "normal". Brake light does not come on except at startup and brake operation appears to be "normal". Wife said she notices a "squishing" sound when she activated the brakes the other day, but the "hiss" was not present at that time. Local Dodge dealer wants $315, NAPA is about $120. I dont want to spend the $$ until I get an accurate assessment of the problem. Manual shows no adjustment of the rod from the pedal to the vacuum assist unit. No noticable vacuum leak noise is the engine compartment, just in the cab.

Thanks for the help (again)

With the engine running step on the brake pedal and cycle several times. then hold down with firm pressure for several minutes. The light may come on if the leaks is more that the vacume pump can put out.

Mine did the same as yours several years ago but the light would come on if I used the brake much and it got hard to stop a few times. Replaced the booster and figured I might as well change the master cylinder at the same time.
