I had to remove driver's battery tray. Besides the obvious 4 x 13mm nuts/bolts holding the tray down, there are 2 more hidden ones that are easily accessed after taking off the wheel well liner.
Removed the electrical connectors for both the battery temp sensor and the cruise. Then there are 3 x 10mm nuts holding the cruise servo to the battery tray. Freeing the servo allowed me easy access to the vacuum line.
I initially just used only the heat shrink tubing. It shrunk into the break making the connection floppy, and I figured it wouldn't hold. My friend suggested the fuel line. It seemed too small at first, but with enough "persuasion" it slid over the ends and holds the line well. Then I used the heat shrink to seal the repair. It feels solid. It works, so I'm calling this a success!
The old 1500's in the salvage yards have a much longer vacuum line. Since 2500/3500's are rare to find (the nearest one nearly 500mi round trip) in salvage yards, I'm glad I opted for the repair.
