IIRC, it runs under the lip at the top of the firewall; you can trace it from the vacuum pump. When I replaced my A/C evaporator, I pinched the original line when I reinstalled the 'box'. Rather than remove the box again, I just ran a new line in at the convenient spot in the firewall on the driver's side. It's been working fine for more than a few years.

This was my '98. I painted some red arrows to point the vacuum tube out. The yellow tubing in the pic was some vacuum tubing I used to replace a piece.

Off topic question. What were you doing to your truck when you took the picture?

Mainly replacing the front gear housing gasket. It was leaking bad. We also replaced all gaskets except the oil pan and head gaskets and replaced the IP with a used low mileage pump I'd picked up several years ago.

The truck was running fine. He dropped a wrench and it didn't reach the floor. He is still looking for it.

I know that feeling! I've had a few 1/4" bits and sockets that I'm sure ended up along the road somewhere! I bet if you scoured the road side, you could fill a tool box with all the things dropped into the abyss!

I was putting a TPS on my father's Chevy Silverado a couple weeks ago. I dropped a large, flat blade screwdriver right above the fan. Since my knee replacement, it's extremely difficult for me to get down and back up off the floor. I searched from the top and couldn't find it. I figured it fell into the radiator shroud. Daddy got on the ground and looked from below but couldn't find it. Finally, I got on the ground and found it laying on top of the RH lower control arm. I've no idea how it got there.

I looked for my magnetic base work light for several weeks. Finally remembered the last time I had it was changing the oil on my daughter's Ranger. I got her to crawl under it and, sure enough, it was still stuck to the frame.

It happens....

The last time my truck looked remotely like that, I was putting a tab over the Killer Dowel Pin. That was a long time ago. I would have to check the logbook to figure out exactly when. Arthritis hadn't set in yet, so I was able to leave most of the cooling parts attached. If I had to do it now, I think I would remove most of the front like you did.
