Archived vacuum pump help help

I have a 99 3500 today my power steering and brakes quit thought it was my power steering pump. My question is should my vacuum pump drive dog have play in it I found two small chuncks of metal in the vacuum pump thought they could be from where the power steering dogs were wore. but when I feel inside of the vacuum pump. I can move the impeller freely up and down should it move freely inside the vacuum pump or how does it line up. I think my vacum pump is toast. help Im at work and need to move my truck.

i had a 96 3500 and the power steering went out we put 5 ps pumps in it



before we figured out that the vac pump was bad and also replaced the steering gear box and the high pres line and low pres line
