Vacuum pump on 04.

My wife turned the key on this morning and the vacuum pump would not shut off. I checked it and cant find anything wrong, like a hole in the lines any where. It will shut off when the line is blocked at the point it goes to the speed control under the battery. She had to go, so I just unplugged it. She called and said every thing worked fine, including the speed control. Now how could the be? What is the purpose of the pump? This is on a early 04.

Its purpose is only for the speed control, nothing else. That is why everything else works.

Usually the culprit is a hose rubbed somewhere or a cracked fitting. Can be hard to find.

It was a hole in the line. The thing i didnt understand was the cruse control still worked. I guess the hole was small enough to make the pump engage but the cruse still got enough vacuum to work.

Gentlemen: What are the correct specs for a 2003 turbo diesel vacuum pump? I'm having cruise control problems and found a hole in one of the vacuum lines which I repaired, but still having problems. The dealer says my vacuum pump is pulling 11hg -- BUT -- says he "doesn't know" what the proper spec is for the pump. Does anyone out there know? Thx.
