I've gotten in the seals and o-rings for vacuum pump rebuild.

Does anybody have any advice for the do's and dont's of removing the Vacuum pump and power steering pump from the engine. I have not done this procedure before and would not think that it is too complicated in looking at everything. I'm just asking for any tips or tricks that might make the job a little easier or eliminate some potential trouble, before I get to rippin the assembly off the engine. :)

Thanks in advance for taking time to read this. :)

pump removal

The removal of the pump is about a two hour ordeal. I would pressure clean up under the pump first. I had grease the first time up to my arm pits. There are four bolts up against the front timing cover that you will need a couple of long extensions for. There is a bracket (hard to see) on back and underneath the power steering pump which was the hardest part of the job. First you will need to remover the hub/cover on the front timing cover plate by unscrewing it counter clockwise. Then take a mirror and position the gear buy bumping the starter until the keyway is on top. This will help prevent the key from falling off and into the motor upon installation. If that happens your screwed. Then remove bolt or nut (can't remember). Next remover the braided stainless steel oil line on the bottom of the vaccum pump. While you are down under the lossen/remove the bolts on the back bracket. Then remove the two rubber power steering hoses on top. Last remove the four bolt useing the long extensions. It should slide backwards and out. Good Luck!

AGibson, are you sure this is correct. I have the Dodge manual for the 01 truck and it doesn’t say anything about a "keyway". The vacuum pump is gear driven off the cam.

I guess it is a good thing that it has been raining like heck up here, cause I have not got started on this yet. What I have seen in the pics that came with the seal kit look like the gear is pressed on to the shaft and that I won't have to worry about the keyway. With X-mas and the wedding for my 3rd daughter now out of the way, maybe I can get to this, this comming week. :)

I think Gibson is trying to explain the "injection" pump removal

The vacuum pump is held to the gear case with two bolts, and the gear comes out with the pump.
