Regarding that pesky little thing we call a vacuum pump that likes to blow it's seal and puke oil all over the place, there are now more options available for fixing them. As you may or may not know Chrysler has issued a TSB on repairing the once non servicable vacuum pump, I'm not sure of the TSB number, I left it at home, but I do have some part numbers for you. The parts are genuine Cummins parts and are available at Cummins (even though Cummins NE in Albany said they weren't) or at your friendly local neighborhood Dodge dealer.

The Dodge part number is: 05140342AA and they get about $65 for the kit

The Cummins part number is: 4089742 and I don't know what their cost is but it's most likey half the cost as from Dodge.

The kit comes complete with instructions, two o-rings, a seal and the gasket that goes between the pump and the engine block... ... glad I bought one last week so I'd be prepared..... There is a member on the TDR that assembled a kit quite some time ago that everyone is also happy with and is cheaper, his user name is CPFF I think, I just wanted to pass along some information that could be useful to some of you.

Be careful when you do rebuild. We did my wife's and the "drive yoke" has to come off for the seal to slip over. The part has to be press right back in the exact location. We missed mine and blew the whole thing. We replaced the PS and vacuum pump. Cheap kit, expensive fix.

Be very careful.

the kit is easy to install once the pumps are out, geting them out was a pita, considering that there is no room to work, multiple hoses to come off and spill fluid everywhere and also a mounting bracket to the block that no where i found told me about, also do yourself a favor and go ahead and get the gasket that goes between the vac pump and the back of the gear housing, mince started leaking there now i have to take it back off and replace that gasket.

The kit actually comes with one of those gaskets but I had bought one last week thinking it wouldn't come with one. I haven't done the job yet, I'm working outside and it was crappy today so my plan is to do it tomorrow. I'll have my camera with me and let you guys know how it goes. Wish me luck. :D

Well Boys the job is done, between the Cummins instructions in the package, the TSB, and the factory shop manual the job went very well. I didn't really read the instruction while doing the job because I had read the before, I just kinda glanced at them to make sure, it really is that easy of a job. Tools needed, 10mm, 11mm, 18mm, 7/16, 9/16 wrenches, pliers to get the Power steering hoses off. Probably a few other things too but the big thing was the fact that the oil supply line on the bottom of the vacuum pump is a 9/16 and a 7/16 to hold the fitting still, it's not easy to get to and I used metric wrenches, ended up needing to buy a new fitting to go in the pump. I'll say this again the hose fitting for the oil supply is 9/16 and the fitting in the pump body is 7/16. Everything else is metric.

I ended up taking the two pumps out seperately because of the messed up fitting that I had to use vise grips on but I put them back in as a unit. The rebuild was no problem other than the big o-ring was small in size than the original so I put the original back in. While I had all the room in the world I also did the cam position sensor, it really is an easy job with the pumps out of the way. I started at 10:30 this morning and had the pumps out and the CPS changed by 12:00, I went to get a fitting and some lunch, started to replace the seals around 12:30-45 and had everything back together and the tools put away by 2:00, so it took me 3 1/2 hours and I'm pretty sure I could shave an hour to an hour and a half off that now that I've done it. If anyone has questions or anything let me know, if anyone close by wants some help doing this let me know.

I checked prices here in AZ. and the DC dealer want's $75. 44 for their kit. None in stock, but said 3 were available in CA. The Cummins dealer had the number in computer but said it was a new item and not available as yet but he could place a order. Cummins price is $ 6. 98. I am going to order a Cummins kit so I will be ready if it ever leaks.

Dodge's MSRP for part number 05140342AA is $60. 35 with no part price increases sence 2/2/04.

It sounds like there are some gready dealerships out there.

I think I'll get mine at cummins.

There are some pictures in my readers rigs if you want to take a look, I didn't take as many as I wanted but you'll get some idea of whats going on.

I just ordered the kit from Cummins for about $15 including UPS ground shipping. this seems awful cheap compared to the Dodge price. I hope It's the right part.
