After searching here the last couple days I still have not found a definate yes or no on rebuilding the 1989 CTD vacuum pump. Anyone? Anyone?

Thank you all...

vacuum pump rebuild

Ditto on bgilberts reply.

I have ordered the bushings(2),pushrods(2) and gaskets from Cummins and one diaphragm was bad so I got a reman unit from NAPA for about 175 clams.

While I had it out I also replaced the "O" rings where it seals the diaphragm units to the main pump body.

I couldn't find any rebuild parts anywhere around here, so last winter I bought a NAPA reman. Using my son's discount is was around $120 if I recall correctly.

Seems to work fine. actually I think the old one was ok, but it was full of oil so I'm glad I put on the new one.

Good to hear, this will be my first of a few projects on this new to me CTD. I did get the factory manuals as well as a couple Cummins manuals, I'll never get over a factory manual compared to a chilton etc. Good stuff here on the TDR, no mistake joining and hope to learn and share if I can. Thanks to all here in the 1st Gen section for sure!
