Awesome information! I don't need it yet (knock on wood) but I much prefer parts to rebuild, rather than replace, an assembly like that.

I just called the dealership that I generally use and they said this is a $60 seal kit. Is that really a reasonable price for what needs replacing?

Thanks,

Mike

John (CPFF) already has a seal kit for a lot less than that price. If you need a kit send him a PM.

Amazing, it took DC three years (maybe longer) to figure out this fix.

They should have just called John :D

Is there a parts list of what is included in the kit. That's way high if it's just the seal, but if it includes a wear sleeve for the power steering pump shaft, then I s'pose it might not be too bad.

Man it's about time they came out with this!! That kit should save a lot of people a lot of money. The seal that was leaking on mine was only $12 from NAPA, but for those people not willing to take the time to find their own, DC should have done this a long time ago!

How much of a PITA is it to replace that seal? Mine has been leaking since I bought it. I know its the seal and nothing else. I am pretty mechanically inclined, fuel systems, all filter changes, fluid changes, guages, etc, etc, on a scale of 1-10 given my skill, what would you call this? 10 being the toughest. And how many hours?

Thanks!

I have bought parts from Cummins Bridgeway for under $20 to fix

this. P/N Chicago Rawhide seal 10515 and o-ring#3906694.

It looks like it is a seal and possibly two O'rings and possibly a new sleeve. Warranty time pays 1. 6 hours, so it is probably at least a couple hour job if you are only doing one time. Dealer net is $37. 00, so if the dealer quoted $60 (which is MSRP) at least he wasn't trying to double net you.
