So I had to change the hose for the third time in 11 years. I know about the recall that they had for the 95s to put a checkvalve in to stop oil from the vacuum pump breaking down the hose. My engine number was not included in the recall. The dealer said that the checkvalve in the one at the booster, I would think that you have to put one down at the vacuum pump to stop the oil. Anyone have a part number or any other information? Thanks in advance!

The recall # is 720 it applys to production dates between 7/10/95 and 7/-/96,if the fitting at the hose is a 14mm hex you need it to be done if it is a 22mm hex you don't.

Why did you have to change the hose? I noticed yesterday on my 95 that when the motor is running the hose collapses. If you shut the motor off and pump the brakes the hose returnes to normal. Do I need to replace the hose or is that normal? Thanks, Tom/Idaho

Bob4x4, I will have to check and see what size mine is. I am pretty sure I will need it as when I removed the hose, it had oil in it.

jsjaastad, I changed the hose because it gets oil inside of it at the pump end and then it collapses (because of oil breaking down the hose), restricting the vacuum being sucked from the booster and decreases your braking.

Is that a special hose, or just regular old vacuum hose you get at the parts store? I noticed mine was mushy when I did my vacuum pump. I couldn't even tell if it was the same size at both ends, or if it was just swollen at the pump end from oil contamination.

The new hose that I bought from the dealer has 11/32 Vacuum Brake Hose and the part number printed on the outside. It was about a foot long. The inner diameter on one end appeard to be a little larger than the other. It also came with hose clamps on it. You could probably use any hose as long as it's rated for vacuum. I wonder if there could be a way to just replace the lower section of the hose with a hard line so it wouldn't be effected by the oil from the pump.

Another thought is that I have 150,000 miles on mine, does my vacuum pump need to be rebuilt if there is oil in the hose? Keep in mind that I am now on hose number 4 over the course of the last 11 years. My father's first gen still has the orginal hose and its got the same mileage and it's 16 years old.

So after a bit of research, I found this recall documentation, http://www.dodgeram.info/tsb/recalls/720.htm

Also it illustrates what Bob4x4 said about the fitting on the pump. I double checked and evidently I should have the internal pump. So the question is why do I still have oil in the line? Do I need to rebuild the vacuum pump?
