just thought of this, would a bad or going bad vacuum pump cause engine oil to shoot out of dipstick tube, at high rpm's? oil isn't really pouring out of it, but its enough to get the first three delivery valve housings wet with oil.

thanx

If you have a Vacuum Leak, it Will pressurize the crankcase. This could cause leakage out the dipstick tube, but you should be geting Huge amounts of Blowby out the blowby tube. I Don't think a Bad pump itself would cause Oil to start dripping out of the dipstick tube. P.

i don't see any blowby, doesn't use oil, checked cylinder walls and pistons for damage when head was off, found none, just had the head gasket professionally changed.

it's not really bothering me, just curious as to the cause.

thanx

How is yours brakes the first couple seconds after starting the truck in the morning? Mine started leaking a little and my brakes would hardly hold the truck in the driveway (on a hill) if I take the Ebrake off. If you want I can check the cummins rebuild kit part # for ya tomorrow. It was only $7 and had the seal, o ring and a new gasket going to the timing case. Easy install other than getting the dang pump off the truck.

there're all right at start up, but this may be the begining of failure, i first noticed it a few weeks ago an oil leak under vibration dampener, at first i thought it was the crank seal, but it had already been changed, then i noticed at times oil would kinda of bubble or sqirt out od dipstick tube. that lead me to a possible failing vacuum pump(pressurizing crankcase). (hg's been changed) yes, if possible please send me the pn# for the kit.

thanx

Get it for ya after work today. Do you want the front seal # also? I am going through the front of mine doing the KDP and have all the bags sitting there on the work bench.

4089742 vacuum pump seal kit $ 7. 26

3918673 gear cover gasket $24. 93

3804899 front seal $32. 40

3845400-s fuel strainer kit (fleet gaurd) $ 8. 32

My Cummins dealer aint the best so I bet that you could source these parts a little cheaper. You can probably for go the gear cover gasket as I dont think that it really needs to be replaced upon removal. I threw in the fuel strainer kit just cause it took three trips to get the part number right. Good luck with the vacuum pump. I would break all the housing bolts on the adapter loose before removing the power steering pump from the timing cover. This will make it easier to split that sucker in the vehicle so that you dont need to remove the PS lines. Dont forget that there is a oil line on the back connecting to the oil line. That will be whats holding it from being removed.
