We are on the road and the Jake vacuum pump failed. I took it into a dealer and got raped badly to the tune of $1300. 00 bucks, I called Dodge (we have an extended warranty) they say not covered#@$%!. Has anyone else run into this as later I find out that I could purchase the pump from other sources (Geno's or even Advance auto) for a lot less.

I replaced mine a few months ago and Dodge quoted me $1200+ installed. I told them no thanks and to just bypass the pump for now with a stock belt. I ended up getting a replacement vacuum pump at Cummins for $200.

I have been with the same service department since I bought the truck and have a pretty good relationship with them, and he warned me before he gave the quote that it would be outraguous, as they no longer stock the vacuum pumps with the changeover to the integrated exhaust brakes.

Ditto on the Cummins dealer. The first time I got it for about $100. The second time was a little less than $200. Still a lot cheaper than Dodge.

I asked the dealer to give me the old pump. Can these be rebuilt and if so what goes bad? So I can order parts and rebuild.
