Vacuum Tool?

My Mercedes has a vacuum-actuated interlock system. When it's working all the locks and the fuel door operate with the driver's door lock. It's not working. Can anyone recommend a vacuum tool to help diagnose the problem? Maybe something like this:???

Yeah, that's the hot ticket. I bought mine at the Harbor Freight Store. Looks like that one, but plastic. I only use it once in a while, so I couldn't see spending $38 or so dollars on it. I gave about $28 for mine.

I have the Mityvac Silverline complete set. To be honest, I don't use it very often. But when you need it, it's the only thing that will do.

IF you happen to have had kids and you wife used a breast pump to express milk, then you will notice the similarities to the test kit. I have used her old one for many years and it works great. You will probably find that you have a leak in one of the door actuator diaphrams. In older MB you can replace just the diaphram, about 5 bucks. On later series you replace the whole actuator including the electrical part of the switch.

note: If you own an earlier (70s) model mercedes with the vacuum locks, it has a vacuum reservoir inside the left fender, the fittings to the vacuum reservoirs leak often causing problems. On later models (80s) the reservoir is a "quilted pillow" looking flat black plastic reservoir under the package shelf area in the trunk of the car.

Yeah, that's what I have under my wagon. Anyone have a good procedure for troubleshooting vacuum doorlock issues in the W123 chassis Mercedes? I'll put up a post in the "Other Vehicles" forum.



My buddy has a used MityVac silverline like the one pictured above. It needs a service kit (about $15; MityVac kit #4100). I'll probably go for it, if he doesn't want to fix it.
