I'm going to sell my Dodge and wonder what the "add-ons" are worth. I have Buckstop bumpers front and rear, Jacob's exhaust brake, "Advance Cover" hard bed cover, KORE "Recon" suspension, Westin chrome over stainless full length step bars, Hella 500 lights in the front bumper and additional backup lights in the rear bumper.

added on edit: I forgot to mention that I have around $4,500 in these items.

Thanks, Bob

Seems like replacment stuff like suspension, wheels or bumpers does not add much at all, add on stuff like steps or bed covers might add some, but probably very little compared to what is costs.

Sounds like a nice truck.

All that is very subjective. If you find someone that appreciates every mod you've made, you'll be able to get better money out of it. Usually, unless you go full boat show truck it doesn't increase the value that much, IMO. Even then, your potential buyer pool is reduced significantly. Maybe try Ebay?

I dont ever expect to get any real money out of the mods I put into my rides. Sure, it'd be nice. But usually its a disappointment. Now, I mod for me. :D :)

Potential buyers dont care and it may even scare away buyers. Usually its a wash. IMHO I would NEVER buy a lifted Chevy or a bombed PSD. You would be better off removing thoes items and selling them seperatly, just like everyone else here.

If you think you can add the $4,000 on top of the price of your truck you are way wrong. Just remove all your stuff and sell seperate. Except for camper shells... . thoes are next to impossible to re-sell for over $400

good luck

It has been my experience that any mods or add-ons take away from the value of the vehicle in most circumstances. I personally would not want to purchase a lifted or otherwise modified truck from someone. You never know how hard it was run.

I've never seen anything other than some nice rims, a camper shell, Line-X, or anything bring the value up over blue book. You can just use those items to justify not coming down as much on your price as someone with a completely stock truck.

When it comes time to sell my truck, I'll put all the stock pieces back on (with the exception of the clutch and FASS) and trade it in.

Well, none of us would buy a Chevy or PSD, bombed or not :)

I sure didn't expect to get all of my money back. That would be pretty naive to expect that. I just wanted a general idea of what these things might be worth if anything.

Parting out would be a last resort. This country is covered with Dodge diesels so I'm hoping I don't have much trouble moving the rig.

Thanks, Bob

When I traded in my 05 2500 for the 06 3500 the dealer was not going to give me a nickel for anything that I had added on. I had about $7k worth of add ons. I peeled off every thing I could off the 05 and installed them on the 06.

The problem is that the dealer won't give anything for a used vehicle. But, on trucks like ours, they'd mark them up $5,000-$7,000 for re-sale. That's why I haven't traded the last 5 or 6 cars I've owned and sold them privately. I take good care of my rigs and make sure anyone who buys one of my vehicles gets a first class deal. I did the same thing when I sold an airplane. If there is something wrong, I fix it or tell the purchaser about it. (For instance, one of my Westin full length step bars has some rock damage on the bottom. I'd darn sure tell a prospective purchaser this. )

When I sell privately, I get more than I'd get from a dealer on trade and the buyer gets a darned nice rig for $$$$ less than the same rig would bring at a dealer. I get a great feeling out of depriving a dealer of his excessive profit on my rig.

I've added on to every rig I've owned. Not the stuff that my downgrade drivability tho. I have found that good extra's help get top dollar for the rig, but never got near what I had in $$$$. Doc
