I had the valves adjusted for the first time a couple of months ago at just over 104k miles. They were all "equally loose by .002 and were set to specs at .010 intake and by .002 exhaust".

Here is my question. It is about a 50 mile drive home from the place I had the work done. I didnt really notice any difference in how the truck ran. But since then, I think I notice that is idles and runs much smoother than it did prior to the work. Now, it was pretty smooth before the valve adjust, but now even smoother.

So, does a new valve adjust take a while to "set in" ? Or is it just my perception (Im guessing just my perception)

Thanks

I hope they adjusted the exhaust valves to .020 not .002. I just did mine a few months ago and did not notice much difference either. Mine were off about the same. SNOKING

.002 is what is on the invoice from the Power Shop. They very well could have mistyped on the invoice.
But I sure notice a difference now.

If they were off .002, that will not effect how it runs, and any difference is in your head. Also they do not set in after adjustment! It takes another 100k for things to change again, that's why you adjust them. Snoking

It is recommended by Cummins. More often than not they will still be in spec, but it is good practice to check at least that often. If I have the valve cover off for any reason I will check mine for peace of mind.

The barring tool really helps also. I bought it for the boat 4B150's and recently used it on the truck. Goes on the other side in the truck, but same same. Snoking
