Valve Adjustment

Is there a millege that i should Adj. my valves. what is involved. I was told i have to remove all the fuel injectors & there is a special tools i need. it`s a 06stock 5. 9 no mods.

Dodge recommends doing them every 100,000 miles for the common rail head 03-present, however I still do them every 50,000 miles. All you need are basic tools, including a feeler gauge and remove the valve cover. You dont need to do anything with the injectors.

I too do them about every 50K.

I've found that there is alot of wear (sp?) in the first 100,000 miles and that after things settle down. On other trucks I found that there was NO change in the valve lash after the first reset after break in. Just don't set them too tight or you'l risk burning the valves.

I adjusted mine at 50K in the hopes it would get a little better mileage. Didn't make any difference but I did find that several valves were a bit tight and that the clearances were all over the place.

I did mine summer before last at 90K. There was little to no adjustment needed. We even reused the same valve cover gasket.



We tried to use a bump start switch for TDC, but we kept going past TDC. We ended up using a pipe wrench on on the Harmonic Balancer



Otherwise it's pretty easy... .

Its easier just to use a wrench on the alt. bolt.
