Is adjusting the valves on our truck a major jobs??? My truck has 60000 on it an I would like to check them. If it is not a job for the unexperienced does anyone know a good diesel shop in the St. Louis to Columbia area?

i would not recomended adjusting the valves if you have never done one before. you could end up with more valve lash then you started with. i think you don't have to do the first valve adjustment till 100,000 miles. hope this helps.

Valve lash adjustment isn't very hard at all on a 24V, all you have to do is line the mark on the pump gear at 12 o'clock then 6 o'clock to adjust all of them. Just gotta know which 6 to do at 12 and the rest at 6.

As far as a good diesel shop in St. Louis, look no further than McClain diesel service. Last I knew he was down around Fenton.

McClain moved he is no longer in Eureka.

Only other one that i know of is in Holt Summit off of hwy 54.

Its called something like Diesel Injection Service.

Gateway Cummins in Columbia is my recommendation.

Had a friend thay was ripped off by a shop in or aroung Holts Summit. He had a 91 that had a injection pump go bad under warranty so when the dealer replaced it he asked for the "new" style pump and he would pay the differance. He got the truck back with a P7100. Just before warranty went out the cam broke. The dealer sent it to this Holts Summit shop to put in the warranty engine. It came back with a 91 style VE rotary pump.

Of course they denied everything. :--)
