Anybody in eastern ohio who would be interested in helping me adjust the valves (24valve) on my CTD before I go on Vacation in August? I've never had the valves done before and dont really want to screw it up. I'm getting up in years but I can still learn things  about my CUMMINS. Thanks, Moe

Its really easy to do. Grab a manual (even a haynes shoes how) and go to it. I think the hardest part is getting the valve cover off. You have to bend over the heater hose. Other than that, its just finding which valves are closed and setting them with a feeler gauge. I think its . 0010 intake and . 0020 exhaust. Then turn the engine and do the others. Good luck,

Dave

With the engine at TDC start with

#1 I & E

#2 I

#3 E

#4 I

#5 E

Rotate 180*

#2 E

#3 I

#4 E

#5 I

#6 I & E

make sure the engine is cold when you do it, 0. 010 on the intake and 0. 020 on the exhaust is the middle of the road. Some make them tighter some don't just your preference. It is one the easier things to do on your truck. First time I did mine I used a Haynes manual which was pretty clear on the details.

Thats like asking what oil to use. I do mine every 50k regardless. We all know what the book says and from the readings here a few valves do get a little loose way before then.

I did a 94 for the first time last weekend. It just turned 250k and had never been adjusted. Most werent off but a small amount. It has always had the oil changed from 3k to 5k interivals. If they get proper care they will go a long time.
