Hello, i own a 2007 dodge diesel with the 48re transmission, just bought a ats valve body and wondering how hard it is to replace with basic tools thanks.

Hi, Valve bodies are very simple to change but time consuming and messy. You will need a 13 mm socket and a 10 mm socket is all I believe. Oh and a big 12 quart drain pan and an entire roll of towels of working from the ground.

Drop the pan the night before and loosen the VB, and let it drain overnight. You can't believe that the oil just keeps coming out.

On a 48re you should always change the 1-2 shift lever to a billet one or a 47re 3. 8 lever if you can't find a billet one. The stock 5. 0 lever is likely to break when you increase line pressure. This must be done with the trans out. Its also good to change the inner seal in the front clutch pack at the same time.

I second the above, and, change out the front drum to pump hub seals while it is apart. The stock sealing rings do not handle the pressure increase well and having to pull the trans again is just annoying.
