Well, after 198,xxx miles I finally had transmission problems: Valve body went out.

Started a month ago when I turned down my road and hit the skinny pedal. Truck wouldn't shift out of first and I had to take my foot off and then it corrected. Did it a week later and wouldn't shift period and I had to struggle with it the last 5 miles home. Was gone for a month and then it did it again but finally threw a code, P0871. Scanner said it was the OD Pressure switch.

Called 3 well known transmission shops and the valve body was the first thing out of their mouths. The only place that any in stock (that I could find) was Revmax. Ordered on Thursday along with the solenoid pack, and received it by Tuesday. Night and day difference with one of theirs in place. Much smoother shifts and it feels more responsive. I do have H&S Overdrive tuning on the transmission so now I have higher line pressure.

So, if you see P0871, most likely the valve body.

CBlack.. I'm curious to know at what mileage you installed the H&S? Have you had any other issues with your transmission, besides the recent valve body problem? What driving conditions are normal for you (towing heavy, short trips, long trips, hard driving or economy driving)? Thanks for any info.

The OD tune was installed at approx. 100k miles. Have had no other issues. The only thing that may classify would be that it wouldn't shift out of 4th on some mornings, especially after it sat for a period (over a weekend). I could take my foot off and let it idle down, then get back on it and it would shift.

My driving habits have been all of the above except towing. In town, highway, economy, as well as 80+mph sometimes. I don't hammer down on it though.

Thanks for the info. Not shifting out of 4th sounds like you had a valve sticking, which most likely threw your solenoid code and lead to needing a new valve body. Not too bad for 198k plus miles.
Last question. When/Did you ever service your transmission, new filters and ATF? Thanks again

It was sticking for a long time if that's the case!

Can't recall what the manual says, but it was serviced at that time and again last week with the VB swap. Tech said my fluid looked good as new.
