I have to torque the valve cover. In searching this topic, I have seen 18 in/lbs once and 18 ft/lbs twice. Which is correct . Ft/lbs seems way too much. I figured just snug with a 3/8 drive socket wrench if nothing else.

At 79000 miles, I probably should have installed a new valve cover gasket after my injector install but I figured if it leaks, I can put a new one on in about 15 minutes. Besides, I want one of those red Cummins ISB covers, I'll get one then. My first injector install went smooth. By the time I got to #6, I could basically to it blindfolded. Took it nice an slow. Everything happened just as spelled out in the directions.

One thing I do know, if you own one of these, ya need a service manual. Where is a good place to pick up the "real thing" for this truck?

First let me say that 18 lb ft sounds right. I don't have my tech man infront of me but with 18 in lbs you would be able to turn the bolt by hand. I use 20 and 30 in lb torq wrenches in my job. If you don't get the right torque on them they will more than likely vibrate loose and become road side debris.

Where can you get a good tech manual. Try looking in the back of you owners manual. There is an order form back there for ordering a good set of manuals. I have even used them as my defense at the DC parts counter for those few times the parts guys "know what they're talking about" There is a two volume set you can order.

I have them and swear by them. I have had HAYES and ChILTONs in the past for other vehicles. I like the ones from the back of the owners manual best. They cost about 93 dollars if I remember correctly .

Your 99 has shouldered bolts, just tighten till they stop. You will feel them go solid. The compression of the rubber seals on the bolts and the valve cover gasket will keep it from loosening.
