Why are the valve lash settings on 06-07 5. 9's more on the exhaust than the older 5. 9? My sticker on the valve cover says . 10 intake . 26 exhaust while most of the posts you read refer to settings . 10 - . 20 any information as to why and what lash works best for the 06-07 5. 9

Thanks, Ron B

Go with the recommendation for your truck/year. I think the 06'+ have different valve seats for higher heat. My 06' also mentions . 10 / . 26.

The 06+ have slightly different seats and valves and the lash was increased as they supposedly can expand more. Not sure what exactly it would take to cause issues setting the vlave lash at . 020 or even . 018 like the earlier ones. I would guess if you monitor exhaust temps and never let them get over 1200 or so . 018-. 020 is fine.

When my truck had 40,000mi on it, I adjusted the valve lash to . 008 and . 018 in. There was no difference in how the truck ran or idled. I set the lash back to . 010 and . 026 in. Truck still ran the same.

Hello there. . I have an 2004. 5 with 165,000 miles. . Never have adjusted valves. No I have not really towed but that is to change. . Question is how often does everyone really check/adjust valves??

Everybody's different on when they check or adjust there valves, just personal preference mostly. At 165,000 miles if you want peace of mind then go ahead and do it.

FYI, the Chrysler spec from the factory service manual for my 2006 has a range from . 021 to . 02somethin'. For that reason I can't see any harm in setting it at . 020.

Godspeed,
Trent

When I checked mine they were @ . 12 and . 28 a little loose but their is a factory variance on them. Will this change make any difference? Probably not, but at least I know where they are and will know they are right. I set mine to . 10 and . 26

Spoke to a mechanic at the Dodge dealer the other day and he said, I set all mine on . 10 and . 20 regardless of the year.
