I'm just curious if anyone knows why the wide range for the valve lash. Is there an optimal gap? Were the 2nd gen 24v engines like this?

Thanks

I would assume the specs are the same as the previous 24-valve. As for the wide tolerance range that is probably set up so that you can get the long 150,000 mile valve adjust service interval. Given that it doesn't take a lot of valve lash change to affect driveability and smoothness I agee the range is very wide. On my last truck I adjusted mine twice and always went for . 018" exhaust and . 008" Intake.

I have seen guys with well under 100K with lash almost out of spec and worse yet, cylinders off from each other a lot. I plan to check mine by 50K.

Well Vaughn...

I thought I remember you stating on NW BOMBers that you used . 009" Intake, . 019" Exhaust.

Senility? :p
