Im going to change the valve springs in my '98 12 valve and thought maybe the seals could be leaking with 112k miles.

A search seems to suggest that nobody ever changes the things. Is it true and they are so good? This truck was/is bluesmoking when cold.

Valve stem seals

You might get a little oil running down around the valve stems when the engine is shut off but with the turbo supplying air above atmospheric to the intake, it should not be a problem when running. The manual shows stem seals on the 24 valve engine, if it has them and you are going to have the springs off, I would replace them. bg
